OceanPact’s Experience

Deepwater Horizon – Gulf of Mexico, USA/Mexico (2010)

OceanPact was the only Brazilian company working in the Command and Control Center of the largest disaster in the offshore oil industry: the Deepwater Horizon well blowout in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. This mobilized the largest structure, with the most resources, equipment and staff, ever assembled for any oil spill.

Over 500 people in the main response center (logistics, planning, documentation, safety, wildlife, media, liaison…)

We collaborated with:

- Airborne assessment of impacted areas / RAT (Rapid Assessment Team);

- Airborne coordination of the vessels operating the in situ burning of oil at sea;

- Development of a solution for the control of the response fleet through the AIS (Automatic Identification System).

Brazil – Guanabara Bay (2000) and Paranaguá Bay (2004)

OceanPact’s professionals participated in the response to the largest disasters in Brazilian waters: the Petrobras oil pipeline rupture in the Guanabara Bay and the explosion of the Vicuna in the Bay of Paranaguá.

• Members of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) with active participation in the F20 Technical Committee for Hazardous Substance and Oil Spill Response.

• Members of ABIQUIM – the Brazilian Chemical Industry Association and of ABPCEA – the Brazilian Association for the Prevention and Control of Environmental Emergencies.
