OceanPact: only Brazilian at the Command and Control Center in the Gulf of Mexico

OceanPact was hired as an oil spill response expert by O’Brien’s Response Management, appointed directly by BP to lead the incident command center, which brought together over 1000 professionals.

From the first weeks after the incident, until the total containment of the spill, OceanPact participated in the Incident Command System and the command center routine, acting on open sea response and the evaluation of coastal areas (Rapid Assessment Team, Scouting, Controlled Burning Spotters).

Aside from the experience and learning gained, our participation brought innovative contributions to operations, such as a navigation system for aircraft and helicopters with the ability to identify and plot vessels; this was our idea and design, which was developed along with SEACOR Marine and installed on 6 support aircraft, training over 12 operators.

Now the incident is past, we are working closely with the Brazilian industry to use what we learned and the whole contact network established with experts from various fields, in order to seek opportunities to improve the oil & gas operations in Brazil and to monitor and influence the evolution of industry rules.
